me and my bitter racist pal are embroiled in a big argument over pro rasslin. he hates rasslin with a passion, almost as much as he hates jews. he hates rasslin because he thinks most people watching it believe it's real.
i say 5% of adult rasslin fans at the most think pro rasslin is on the up and up. he thinks over 50% of rasslin fans believe it's real. he also gives me lectures on pro rasslin and mixed martial arts being homo erotic. i still don't know what homo erotic means but if i mention rasslin, sure as shooting he's gonna mention homo erotic.
i haven't mentioned my racist friend in a long time because he's in bad mental shape right now. he lost a lot of money speculating on real estate then went and lost a lot of money on the stock market. guess who he blames for his misfortune? here's a hint, it begins with a j.
anyway, here's my question:

I do not know one single adult who does not believe that pro rasslin is anything other than entertainment. Myself included. but I do know quite a few who are entertained by it.
Tell your racist friend that its not the j's... it's the K thing... karma. I know it kicks my ass regularly.
I don't believe it's "real" but I do know that people still get hurt in it. I talked to someone who does announcing for it - he said the wrestlers get a little too enthusiastic and do hurt each other. I don't liek to see people get hurt, ever.

I have never met anybody who thinks pro wrestling is real. I know it's not real in the respect that they are beating the hell out of each other. A lot of these guys, however, do take a beating in the name of entertainment.

I use to work in a mental institution, 9 out of 10 of them believed it was real, for what it's worth.

I know it isn't real. I really do, but down here in Ohio about 50% of the rednecks do and they make sure they get their kids involved too.
Tell your friend that it wasn't the J's who screwed up the economy. A big part of it was all the people flipping housed and driving the values so far out of kilter that it had to crash.

alien - i think they take almost as much of a beating as pro football players.
bbc - who wins is about the only thing that's 100% pre determined. the rest of the script can vary.

I think the real percentage is somewhere in the middle. I think a majority of adults realizes it is staged and scripted, but I do live in a rather secluded little pocket of the south, and some people around here are quite convinced. (None of the folks I'd associate with, but you know.) I'd put the figure of true believers somewhere around 10-15%.
As for homoerotic, wonder how he feels about public showers in prisons or at the Y.
