tension

the flesh belongs to the individual
but the water belongs to the tribe.

i picked up a dvd on bicycle tune ups and it worked!

my gears weren't shifting perfectly but it wasn't bad enough to take it into the shop so i decided to adjust it myself. in the past it was a hit and miss proposition. sometimes things were worse after i tinkered and sometimes things were better. the dvd taught me one thing, tension rules.

i adjusted the tension on the derailleurs and it worked like a charm. it's not often that things work this well for me. the only problem occurred during the test ride. i rode through dog shit.

back to my book.

your think if your smart enough to tune up your own bike you'd be smart enough not to ride thru dog shit...you'd think...snort*

sage - no problem, i borrowed somebody's tooth brush to clean the tires.

yellowdog - it was fate, from birth i was destined to ride through dog shit on october 5, 2009.

Hum, tension on the derailleurs, guess I never had any need for that when I made the 35 speed three wheel recumbent because I've damn sure never heard of it before.

And my next ride won't have derailleurs, but sprag clutches and rods. Meaning also, no chains.

But I may use a couple of three speed hubs in that design.

"and to the dreams of your tribe"

Geez... I left that on the last post, which I managed to miss. Rats.

Eeeewww... Did it flick up on you like the lawn mower will do? Gross.

As a librarian, I am constantly telling my students that if you can read, you can learn how to do anything. Now you can be part of that lecture as in "I know a man who..." But I think I will leave out the part about the dog shit.

Yeah, that is how I learned to rebuild automatic transmissions and fix automotive A/C units.

So I guess she doesn't need me to teach her how to change the oil and filter in her car being as that information is in her library.

That's cool, it leaves me free to go camping.

bbc - that sounds like adding a lot of weight to the bike. i wouldn't ride a bike over 27 pounds or a woman over 120 pounds;)

ananda - i didn't read how to make the repairs, i watched a video. reading a manual probably would have ended up in a clusterfuck.

For someone who could read, you'd think that I'd have seen "dvd" in there... but hey, we check out dvds and videos too, so the story still works.

(Good thing I can laugh at myself, you guys are tough.)
