whilst others spent the summer repairing houses and vacationing with the family i spent countless hours conducting exhaustive research into one of mankind's oldest and most intriguing questions; what is the best television series. since i have a few holes in my memory i had to concentrate on the last 10 years.
first i came up with a short list; the sopranos, the sons of anarchy and deadwood. not wanting to make a half arsed job of it i decided to watch them all one more time. all three had excellent violence and profanity and all three had some nauseating love/family subplots. it's a tough decision and i could use a little help.
thanks for the help, i love you sons of bitches.

Well, ya son of a bitch, I can't help you much cuz I've never watched near the TV most others have.
And no, that doesn't make me an artsy fartsy uppity moron, it just makes me me.
Before moving here I enjoyed watching Lonesome Dove, "How about a poke honey".
Also enjoyed Cheers, and, what was that series after that where Danson played a doctor, Home Improvement, Sex in the City, things like that.
Hell, most things without sex in them isn't worth watching, and some nice honorable killing to clean out the gene pool isn't a bad thing either.
The only show on your list I've watched is Soprano's and I only watch the beginning drive where the theme song plays. Then I turn it off.
of the 3 sons would be my pick...but those are also 3 of my favorite shows..you forgot Dexter, Mad Men, Saving Grace, The Closer, Damages, Terriers, NYPD Blue, Hill Street Blues, Yellow Rose(no one remembers it but me)ER. and a bunch I'm forgetting.
I haven't seen any of those three but when it comes to violent TV, gotta love Dexter. They don't drop the F-bomb on that show near enough, though.
I haven't seen any of those shows yet. I also haven't seen Dexter though I have all of Deadwood and the first year of Dexter on disc.
I agree with all of BBC's picks except Sex in the City which I have never seen. And the Danson show is called Becker. It's still on WGN. I'm an Artsy Fartsy Uppity Moron but I have a TV on most of the time. I Love movies mostly.
Thanks for letting the people's voice be heard, no matter how disturbing that voice might be.
It might sound like a horrible screeching, but still, it must be heard. Someone might ask "WTF is that noise?" and you can answer
"It's those freakin' people!"
I don't supposed you'd consider The Partridge Family as a contender. I actually agree with the man from the BBC about Lonesome Dove and Cheers, although the former was really a TV movie in several episodes.
billy - i liked lonesome dove too, gus and woodrow made a good team. i think you'd love deadwood.
charlene - i think the sopranos has the best theme song/intro in the history of tv.
yellowdog - dexter was close to making the short list. i love deborah. i wish frank lundy didn't killed but i'm happy that rita got snuffed.
rocky - if you want f-bombs then al swearengen is your man.
mr wit - what are you waiting for? clear your calendar and start watching deadwood. the first few episodes are a little slow but things really pick up after that.
tex - i find listening to people can be quite irritating unless they're on tv. then i have the mute button and previous channel button.
gorilla - bbc is seldom wrong and if he is you better not tell him about it.
Ah, Becker, yes, seems like I've heard of Dexter, maybe I've seen one episode of it.

Hehehehe, if you don't agree with me you are wrong.
I saw some sex in the city cuz the tapes were at the library.
I liked Quigely Down Under but some of it dragged on too damn long.
Have you looked at the results of your survey? Interesting.
you're happy that rita got snuffed? sheesh, what is this world coming to?
billy - i didn't know that i attracted so many artsy fartsy uppity anti tv readers. or maybe google is sabotaging the results.
crazy - dexter saved rita from poverty and abuse and she did was nag him to death. that's gratitude for you.
I've only seen a couple of episodes of Deadwood, same with the Soprano's, they were both great, but spaced too far apart (I have a short concentration span). I don't know if you get Spooks over there, that's my current fave.
well, i thought they had a good marriage, but i missed a lot of episodes.
I can't start those shows yet. I am trying to catch up on Supernatural that I was watching before I got sick. There are currently 5 seasons and a 6th just started on the CW channel. I hope to move on to another show soon but it looks like my Reds are going to make the playoffs this year so I have Baseball to watch too.
shrinky - i'll give spooks a try.
crazy - i don't know of many serial killers that have good marriages.
mr wit - i hear ya, so many shows, so little time.
For me it's Sons of Anarchy hands down. I don't get the channels those other two are on and if I did I might have watched them. I am hoping Justified gets another season and I love Rescue Me. Since the new season just started I am watching mostly all CBS shows straight through. Of course, I am loving the re-make of Hawaii Five-O.
Rather cool site you've got here. Thanks for it. I like such topics and anything that is connected to them. I definitely want to read more on that blog soon.

They're all BLASPHEMOUS, lol !
Well I am way late into this one. Tough choices for me because I like all of them, but Deadwood still rules the roost for me.
We spent a whole day catching up on Star Gate Universe... and watched the season opener and got re-hooked into that one. I'm curious to see if Caprica takes off better this season. I think the spent the first season setting up the history and it went a bit too long.
I miss Al.
billy - and how many serial killers do you know?
