lest we forget

today is remembrance day in canada. it commemorates the end of the first world war. my dad was in the second world war but he uses the occasion to put on his medals and my mother uses the occasion to call him an asshole and tell him to take the medals off.

it seems i made the same marriage mistake as dear old dad.

thinking of the war makes me think of this.

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for the communists
and I did not speak out - because I was not a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me -
and by then there was no one left to speak out for me.

more importantly it give me an excuse to post this...

i love you sons of bitches

She didn't want him to wear his medals on Remembrance Day? I hope she helped him to celebrate his birthday properly.

The working girls always told me

"Too buku!"

Then they would say

"Oh you no too buku, socks in pants!"

Thinking of war makes me sad. Good words, though. Its Vetran's day here. As for the marriage thing... reminds me of that "sins of the fathers" line, which has nothing to do with badly behaving wives.

I hope your dad wore them anyway.

At least we no longer call WW1 the war that will end all wars.

I don't know what WW3 will be fought with, but WW4 will be fought with sticks and stones.

I love that fucking song, and that fucking video.

My dad fought in WW2, he didn't talk about the fighting but he was a proud WFV man.

I haven't mentioned it but a friend of mine here died a few weeks ago. Had three big craters on his back from a machine gun in Nam. The cocksuckers finely killed him.

I was always Number 10 GI.
He should wear his medals every day just to piss her off.
Speaking of Birthdays It's Jacque Sue's 67th. If you go to wish her a happy birthday on Face Book go soon. there's a long line. She's in the motel now and they cut the computer off at 9 PM. Love that song.

What an awesome movie. Full Metal Jacket was one of those films that definitely left an impression. I hope your Dad wore the medals anyway because he definitely deserves to for what he did.

We went to the open air service to observe the three minute silence, see the poppy wreaths laid, and pay our respects (in the fittingly pouring rain). That's a moving poem, I've never heard it before. And God bless your dad.
