tomorrow will be the longest night of the year but i like to think of it as the coldest night of the year.
this song has been number 1 with me for 5 years. since the first time sonny headed up north as an 18 year old. now he's an established engineer and i'm a depressed old man. so it goes.
the song speaks of loneliness and depression. i understand loneliness and depression is somewhat of an epidemic in our society. i'm lonely because sonny's gone and depressed because this friday is the last day to lock in your capital losses and gains for 2010 and i lack the motivation to give a shit about financial decisions these days. when it comes to stuff like this i tend to close my eyes and hope everything works out well. we are all the victims of a series of accidents and most of my financial successes have been nothing but a series fortunate accidents.
i love you sons of bitches and hope all your accidents are of the fortunate variety.

I didn't know there was anything north of Canada ;-)
I totally know what you mean about financial stuff and at this of my life, it's gotten me into a helluva mess.... so maybe you might get a fire lit and deal with that money shit. Take a page from my book is all I'm sayin'.
Way back in my 20's I spent two summers and winters in Kodiak, Alaska, was there in 64 when the big quake hit.
Anyway, the long summer days up there are to die for, go into a bar, get drunk, come out and it's still daylight. Sadly, in the winter you muddle around in the dark most of the time.
because this friday is the last day to lock in your capital losses and gains for 2010
I've never did get into all that shit and I'm doing okay, but my little world has never revolved around money.
On the bright side, after tomorrow the days start getting longer, yea!!!
Come to think of it, I turned 21 in Alaska, on a work party detail on an island with no booze on it, and little else. My birthday drunk was a week later when I returned to Kodiak.
I'm glad to hear that you've had financial successes. Were they in real estate? That's probably the easiest asset to get lucky with.
I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with the $50 left over after I pay all my bills and buy grocery's and gas.buy stock or buy cat treats..
Sonny misses you too you know. call him.
Now every night is getting shorter and summer is just a few short months away. Now if I can just keep from slitting my wrists until it arrives.
You make me realize how lucky I am that my offspring are still fairly close to home.
Now we can look forward to the days getting longer, for about six months.
Robert - Stay away from the knives!
I like that song too.
crazy - i'm going to close my eyes, click my heels and wake up in kansas.
billy - i spent my 20th birthday on the arctic ocean. that's all i remember.
gp - there have been good and bad financial accidents. they seemed like a big deal at the time.
yellowdog - sonny's coming home for a few days which is good but i'll be sad when he leaves.
robert - i can't wait for spring, this cold weather is for polar bears and russians.
tex - longer and warmer! i'm sick of watching the gas meter go around in circles heating the house.
allan - it's a lovely song on many levels.
Your comment on my blog today cracked me up, hahahaha
That's got to be one of the funniest comments of the year.
