occupy wall street

for the record, i like protestors. they wake people up and bring attention to problems or what the hell, they wreak havoc on law abiding citizens. so it goes.

the question i have is what is the goal of the occupy wall street crowd? from what i can gather these guys are mad at corporations for making too much money and not having a social conscience. also, i think these guys are anti republican and pro democrat. am i correct so far?

the most hypocritical thing i've seen in the whole deal is obama jumping on the cause and castigating the so called wall street corporations.

why is he a fecking hypocrite?

take a look at his LARGEST POLITICAL BENEFACTORS.

that's right, he takes a shit load of money from the very corporations he's criticizing in public but behind closed doors he's hopping into the sack with the captains of industry. the very banks that have benefited from his bailouts were in fact his largest contributors. i can't blame him for bailing them out but what he can be blamed for is not putting regulations in place to stop them from fucking up again.

that's it for now. my fecking desktop computer died and the fast food princess is going to set up the new one i bought this morning.

i love those protesting sons of bitches even if i think they're a wee bit misguided.

profit is the straw that stirs the drink in our society.

I think they're anti-republican, anti-democrat and anti anyone with two coins to rub together. They don't say what they're pro, which is probably good tactics on their part.

Consumer Protection Legislation history

And

Opinion on it

And we'll let two experts weigh in to explain Occupy Wall Street.

Nance said...

To finish that thought...in the US, the President does not legislate. He can offer a bill to Congress and he can veto a bill that has passed through congress, but he cannot create a law. Legislation is the job of Congress.

Once the Consumer Protection Act created the agency the President supported, he appointed Elizabeth Warren to head it. Warren would have jerked a hot knot in Wall Street's curly tail, so Wall St. poured on the money to lobby against Warren. Her appointment was blocked by Republicans in Congress.

Those Republicans then turn around and say that the President has made no efforts to reign in Wall St.

Obama is just a member of the good old boys club of folitics. He'll make noise about them cuz that is what the voters want to hear but he makes to much money, not just what they contribute, but on his own investments to get on them hard, that would take some of his cake away.

profit is the straw that stirs the drink in our society.

To me there is a moral line between profit and greed and they cross it.

I'm fine with the protests, there's one here today also. But I don't think they are very effective and almost always run out of steam after a while.

The great protests are those with guns and shooting and there hasn't been any of them for years.

gb - i think anyone under 22 years of age doesn't need a reason to protest, that's part of being young and frisky. once that age is crossed, responsibility and maturity should begin to take over.

nance - but didn't he control both the senate and congress before the the 2010 elections?

bill - it's pro rasslin. when the cameras are on they play their role but when the cameras are off they retreat to the back rooms and smoke cigars whilst patting each other on the back.

one more thing - i typing this on my brand new desktop computer! my kids told me to get a laptop but i'm attaching myself to a tree with roots, i ain't going nowhere.

What BBC said.

BBC said...

I can't talk myself into a laptop either, a damn desktop doesn't take up that much room and they are cheaper and last longer. Generally speaking, although I did have a laptop on my 32 foot boat that was about ten years old when I bought it.

I went down there this morning. There's a lot of shitting outside going on. It looks and smells like every outdoor hippie festival I ever went to, only I didn't have a backstage pass. When I spotted Peter Yarrow, my breathing got shallow and I had to leave. Then I went to The Waverly Inn for brunch and bought pumpkins.

billy pilgrim said...

bob - yup.

bill - i see no reason to pay for screen and battery that i'm probably never going to use plus a desktop can be fixed with a screwdriver.

leslie - maybe arlo singing a few woody songs would be appropriate for the cause.

I went down there this morning.

I wouldn't walk across the street for it unless I could take pot shots at it.

The hippie in her may be cool but hippies need to man up and take to arms and shoot and blow things up to fix this country.

BBC said...

Love comes at a cost, just saying.

billy pilgrim said...

i like hippies, in fact i'm often called an old hippy. social hippy, fiscal conservative.

Socialism is a nice concept but is flawed. Collects too may dead beats and bottom feeders taking advantage of such a system, and this country is full of them.

Maybe if we went back to making them slaves it would work better? Wasn't that long ago that what made people feel rich is if they had a slave or two. I'd call that working socialism, getting some work for keep.

Hum, better start a pot of coffee, 5: AM and coffee goes together.

BBC said...

I don't think mankind is smart enough to build the proper system, it's not even smart enough to keep it's numbers under control. And I don't think that democracy is all it's cracked up to be either. Mankind fucks everything up.

BBC said...

"Hey, hippie, take this gun, you'll get a lot more attention."

"Me? Oh hell, I'm old, I'll just sit on the porch and take pot shots at those going by to keep everyone alert. Cull the gene pool some."

BBC said...

Remember the CC camps in this country? That's proper socialism.

BBC said...

Git right down to it, the CC camps were a form of slavery, "Report for work and do what you are told to do."

Decent concept, like workfare instead of welfare. Hell, I still do a lot of work for others and make my own way.

BBC said...

And provide firewood for campfires so geek goofballs can enjoy some beers at the beach. :-)

"...but didn't he control both the senate and congress before the the 2010 elections?"

You're forgetting the conservative Democrats--Blue Dogs--in the House and Senate who voted and still vote (Sen. Ben Nelson and another Sen. voted against the American Jobs Act, along with all the GOPers) against the leader of their party, President Obama. A lot of these pols come from conservative districts and need to vote that way in order to keep their cushy jobs.

OTOH, while Mr. Bush was president, many Dems, in the Senate and House, supported his policies. The GOP has, however, voted en masse against 99% of what Mr. Obama has proposed.

So, no, Mr. Obama never had "control" over the House and Senate--his Affordable Care Act got passed only though appeasing the social conservatives in his party.

I'm not sure we deserve love, but lust is cool, I'm not sure nature loves us anymore, I like to ponder on things like that.

And it's hours before beer thirty.

BBC said...

Maybe love is a nice three egg omelet, or a new pair of socks, or a bottle of rum.

BBC said...

I got it, love is a job at a cracker factory, hehehe

glad you have a new computer.

billy pilgrim said...

shaw - i bow to your superior knowledge. in our system any member of parliament defying his/her prime minister would be turfed.

bill - what is love but a second hand emotion?

yellowdog - it's a feckin beauty! cheap too.

Shaw Kenawe said...

billy,

No one has ever bowed to me.

Now what do I do?????

BBC said...

In our old system we shot/knifed/beheaded the leaders we didn't like, I sure miss the old days.

Well, it's the same here among the Republicans. They run a tight ship.

BBC said...

I'm not going to approve of the next group up for election either.

SIGH

texlahoma said...

I think they should have narrowed their (OWS) focus to demanding a FED audit or ending it entirely.

BBC said...

Curtsey.

I wonder what planet he is from. Went to the lumberyard for a board today and the clerk called me sir.

"Don't call me sir, asshole works, sir doesn't."

Fuck, the older I get the more monkeys call me sir.

billy pilgrim said...

shaw - you pull out your sword, tap me on the shoulder and presto, i'm a knight!

thims - but their ship is sinking.

bill - face it, you have more days behind you than ahead of you.

tex - i suspect auditing the fed might be impossible or if it was possible the original auditors might die of old age before completing the task.

Hint, hint: The President is a politician. As have been all of our former POTUSsssss.

For the record, I'm digging this revolt. It's high time. ;)

BBC said...

Maybe I can pick up some extra money making protest signs with my new letter cutter.

billy pilgrim said...

jayne - i'm enjoying this revolt too from the comfort of the bat cave. an good organized, targeted boycott might be more effective though.

bill - signs are us??

BBC said...

A good organize something, with guns, we've proved time and again throughout history that that's how you get things.

When the pissed get so pissed that they start killing that is what brings about social changes and improvements.

That is just how it is on this rock.

east germany was brought down by ecomonics. the cold war thawed the same way.

in the good old days, wars were over when the treasury went dry. (or when one side was slaughtered)

I like the smell of spent gun powder in the morning.

Anyone that thinks peaceful protests are going to change things much might be an idiot. Intelligent, but still an idiot.
