call me stupid and hit me with a stick but i'm watching the republican debate so i might as well drone on about some other nonsense whilst watching some guy called perry make an idjit of himself.
i bought a new desktop computer on the weekend. after intense pondering i said; feck it, i'll just buy the cheapest machine i can find that meets my needs. $359 and it works like a charm. this was the 4th desktop computer i've bought. previously the new toys required some tinkering before they were up and running but this little beauty just required me to follow the bouncing ball and it was off to the races. i'll thank bill gates for the simplicity. in the past i thought bill gates was evil, now i think he's a saint and steve jobs was the devil incarnate.
i also bought an e-reader. true to form i bought the cheapest one i could find. doing a little research i found people worried about whether the toy took 1 or 2 seconds to turn the page. we are a bunch of whiners. my el cheapo ereader works fine. it's simple to use and i can make the fonts as large as i want. lucky me.
oh yeah, this is day 7 with no candy. i'm seeing my doctor tomorrow and when she asks what i've done whilst off work on sick leave i'll proudly say, i haven't had a ju jube or peanut butter cup for 7 feckin days. so i got that going for me too. i haven't had a drop of alcohol for almost 6 years. big feckin deal, i get real tired of people thinking they're a feckin saint because they gave up a vice.
i love you sons of bitches

I never thought I'd want an ereader, but then I got an iPad to have as an easily portable computer. It has an ibooks app and a kindle app so I've downloaded a bunch of books - now I'm an ereader convert.
Fuck it, I'm going to bed early and comment later.
Cool toys BP, and you have more courage than I do to watch the GOP debate. I found this quote about politicians that I thought was amusing, "There are two sorts of politicians: those who can talk nonsense on any subject under the sun, and those who don’t need a subject." Have a good one.
Good luck with your new PC. If you can watch videos and DVDs at that price I'll be impressed.
My cheap ass E Machine wuz easy to set up also, I don't feel the need to get an e reader, I like the warmth of books and turning the pages. And like to visit the library.
If I quit smoking I've expect everyone to be impressed. :-)
secret - so far i'm a convert too,
me shife - other than the nonsense over religion is was fun to watch.
gb - 4 gb ram, i've watched a dvd.
bill - i think your lungs would be impressed but as for other humans, i don't think so.
Harry has a tablet, lifted it from his sister I guess. I screwed around with it some and it's interesting but I'm not interested in getting one, my notebook does more when I'm not around my desktop. I just don't feel the need to have every damn new toy that comes along.
Hey, there's folks that would at least appreciate it if I quit smoking. But not Helen, she doesn't give a shit one way or the other, even said I could smoke in her home, but I won't.
I detest the concept of e-readers. A world without bookstores and libraries? Sad.
I will now have to jump off a bridge for agreeing with BBC.
leslie - don't worry, bill has a boat to rescue you. the main reason i purchased the ereader was the ability to increase the size of the fonts for my aging eyes.
I'm lucky I guess, abused my eyes most of my life and can still see pretty good, with cheap reading glasses.
The kind of toys I like are things like solar panels, inverters, and tools, it's impossible for me to have too many tools.
Did you know that you can run your tablet or notebook with a solar panel and small inverter? No external battery required, just run them off the panel.
Once upon a time I had a free program on a computer that would read the text for you, you know, speak the words, as if someone was reading to you. Worked pretty damn good too. I lost interest in it I guess cuz I had all but forgotten about it.
If my eyes go to hell I'll go looking for it on the internut.
I want an e-reader. I've thought a great deal about it. I think what made up my mind was going to the store and seeing a book I wanted was $10.99 and it was nothing special.
I do love libraries and book stores, especially the used ones. I even like the way they smell of ink and sometimes mold and that other nasty odor somewhat like vomit. But used books are not very cheap any more either. Grumble.
I also want a new lap top. I've got my own computer whiz and he tells me that I can get a good one at the price you paid... with plenty of memory and power for whatever. Good job bp!
Well, as e-readers go, there are a hell of a lot of free books and other material available on the internut but I don't see any point in buying a e-reader just for that when my computers work as e-readers.
I read a lot on my phone. I don't get bothered by lines because I always have something to read.
I haven't embraced the tablet concept, personally, although I support them. The iPad is a nice device, I must say. But I'd go Android, personally. I like this one.
Leslie, I think libraries are alive and well as learning centers, although I would agree it is sad that book stores are disappearing, and the trend will continue.
But they will never entirely disappear, because too many people share your sentiment. There will always be books and bookstores, just not in every town...
I read a lot on my phone.
And to think that I like that fucking geek, maybe I should jump off a bridge myself.
bill - small world, when i was at the doctor today she was showing me how she used the speak function on word whilst multitasking.
silly - i love books too. not owning them but taking them from the library and having the feeling that other people had read the book and a little of their karma\spirit is contained in the book and the next person will get a little of my spirit. kinda like ruby taking a leak in the park so other dogs can feel her spirit.
thims - as long as there's a demand for books they'll be produced but demand is certainly dwindling as the younger generation embraces technology. that being said i think first edition books are an excellent investment.
Billy, you need to work on your spirit schtick. I recommend that you emulate BBC.

Rolls eyes....
He's not even close to having the experiences I've had, but he has a good sound system.
"I stopped puttin' me dick in the food blendah!" *clap-clap-clap*
Fkn PRICELESS!!!
thims - the spirit of christmas is not in the drink. i met a shaman who told me i'd have to give up my teeth in order to receive the spirit. i decided to keep my teeth.
bill - so it goes.
gait - easy to laugh when you've never put your dick in a blender. there are lots of greeks who aren't laughing anymore.
GOOD MOVE.
NEVER buy "state of the art", unless you like getting buttfucked by a more sleek, faster updated model 6 months later.
With electronics, I find it MUCH better to "BUY OBSOLETE".
exactly..I quit smoking and drinking to have a better life..why make a big deal out of it..I've sort of lost count to the amount of time..I think I've been saying 21 and 36 years now for a couple of years.
I bought an e-reader because I read more than one book at a time, and if I'm traveling, it's more convenient, and less cumbersome to carry a reader rather than 3 or 4 large books.
Congratulations on everything, billy. But especially on being smart about electronics.
I have several family members who worship Steve Jobs--all their emails now carry the Apple logo with Jobs' profile in it. Soon I expect them to be wearing a gold replica of it on a chain around their necks and declaring a Holy Day of Obligation for February 24.
Cheers!
heff - same deal with bread. why not buy the day old stuff if you're making toast.
yellowdog - i miss those halcyon days of old.
shaw - wow, job's profile on emails!
it truly is a cult and they're being tracked constantly by one of the most cunning corporations and data miner on the planet.
