freedom of speech?

ozzie guillen, manager of the florida marlins, was SUSPENDED FOR 5 GAMES because he had the audacity to say he liked fidel castro. ozzie claims he was misunderstood, thinking in spanish and speaking in english. it seems pretty fucked up to me to be suspended for commenting on a foreign politician.

speaking of that rat bastard castro, he had the audacity to INSULT OUR FINE CANADIAN PRIME MINISTER!. he's also criticizing canadian mining companies for their practices in some latin american countries. perhaps he should be criticizing the incompetent politicians that issue permits for the mines. (i'm a little biased since my kid's a mining engineer) most of these banana republics are more interested in extorting money out of the mining companies than inspecting tailing ponds. so it goes.

i've always liked fidel, i think he's an incompetent administrator but he does it with a flair. things are going to be tough for fidel if hugo chavez croaks and the venezuelan oil money quits flowing into cuba.

i love you sons of bitches

It seems to me that most of the countries south of the US border are way more interested in pay offs and big fees than what is good for the country or the people.

I don't understand why he can't say he likes Fidel. Since when is that a baseball issue?

Bear can't see the video of Fidel falling down without laughing herself silly. I actually felt sorry for him that he toppled over.
Getting old sucks, I'm sure that's true even for old Fidel.

i wonder if fidel still writes his own material or if he's like all the western politicians with an army of writers and spin doctors?

Keep your head low, keep getting those checks, that's my philosophy.

If it's the government messing with your right to freedom of speech, that's one thing, but a private company, they have a lot more leeway.

Good one pilgrim, comparing that low down egg sucking son of a mangy flea bitten chicken thief Castrato to the Devil.
He won't come off that stash of Monte Christos he's been hoarding since
'59.

In baseball it's all aboot the spin.

That and a goud spitball.

Castro is a dinosaur. I'm sure even your Canadian lefties don't believe you can have a productive economy without private enterprise. That said, I don't agree with suspending that ball player unless the same thing would have happened if he said he liked Pinochet. You've got to be even-handed about these things.

I'm not sure the word 'extorting' is apropos here.
Would a hooker be 'extorting' money from a 'John' when he/she asks to be remunerated for being fracked?

A 5 game ban for likeing Castro, god what would happen if he liked the iranian president, a ban for life?

And Castro writes his own stuff anybody else who claims otherwise is an imperalist.

In the USA we revere free speech... unless we disagree with what is said or we choose to be offended.

In North America, y'all revere free speech, but you revere paid speech even more.

tex - i guess his contract has some sort of good behavior clauses that can be very sweeping.

harry - i was just looking for an excuse to play my 8th favorite all time song.

yellowdog - he takes a lickin and keeps on tickin!

gb - our lefties have been drifting toward the center in the hope of forming a government. soon the chinese will own all our resource based companies so the lefties might find out what a true state controlled economy is like!

aquarians - getting fracked! that's very, very clever given castro's comments on canadian corporate ethics.

what did you think of wiebo ludwig passing away?

charlie - i kinda like ahmadinejad
myself. i just wish his name was easier to spell.

robert - i guess blasphemy is out of bounds too.

Castro tried an experiment and it hasn't worked. But America is an experiment and it's failing also.

Some Texans don't like free speech considering how often I get deleted on their blogs. :-)

Good points, BP, and it is ridiculous that he got suspended for 5 games. It is not like this is the first time Ozzie said something stupid. Did the Marlins not know who they were hiring? Have a nice one, buddy.

I don't give a fuck about any over paid players in any sports.

You must have more pretty pieces of silver than brains. :-)

But that's not a bad thing, your son or his son may need that silver in the future to make more bullets with to stay free.

mr shife - i still can't believe he was suspended for a political comment. maybe it's all a dream.

bill - i've only got one brain so i guess i do have more silver coins than brains.

And by doing so, it called attention to something very few people, if any, would have actually heard, thereby giving some unearned attention to old Fidel.

You just described the relationship between American politicians and corporations.
