sochi

so russia is CRACKING DOWN ON GAY PROLIFERATION at the sochi olympics. i'm surprised that russia is doing this as it surely is an impossible public relations battle to overcome. it has been my experience that engaging in a war of words with jews, indians or homosexuals is akin to pissing into the wind.

now george takei is jumping on the bandwagon and calling for the sochi games to be MOVED TO VANCOUVER., lucky us. i didn't really pay much attention to this bullshit until that little rat bastard weasel takei opened his pie hole. i have a two bit bullshit facebook account and somehow i'm always seeing takei's ugly mug on my wall as lots of people seem to enjoy sharing his shit. until that little rat bastard fudge packer issues a unequivocal and sincere apology to william shatner for all the cheap shots he's leveled at the man responsible for any success he's enjoyed, he is persona non grata in my books.

until this little gay dust up, the big news out of sochi was the CORRUPTION AND THEFT that was occurring on a grand scale. whenever there are large amounts of money at stake it doesn't matter if if there is a socialist government or a capitalist government, the human condition of greed will appear. anyone dreaming of a just society, an equitable distribution of wealth, racial harmony or global cooperation hasn't even managed to climb aboard the turnip truck, let alone fall off it. we are what we are and i get awfully tired of people trying to turn us into something we are not or trying to make us feel guilty for supposed character flaws that are hard wired into our collective psyches. so it goes.

i had planned a few big changes in pilgrimville but health issues have temporarily put things on hold.

i love you sons of bitches.

Billy, sir, do you think that if perhaps I imposed a Crackdown On Gay Proliferation on my bog, squire, then I would not have so many Blogger statistics informing me that I have such a higher than average level of Russian visitors?

On a more serious note, sir, as a heterosexual Dartmoor pig farmer, one who is possibly the most non-homophobic farmer living on the moors, I find this to be a deplorable and most wicked violation of human rights, sir. It is also an insult to these athletes sexuality, which, surely, squire, should not be brought into question. Why should, as is normally the case in life, albeit whether someone is gay/straight/lesbian or whatever, the person in questions natural ability be disregarded because of their sexuality. Surely, they should be judged on merit and nothing more. This is the 21st Century, sir, and having seen, during the course of my life, people being jailed for being gay, it being illegal [this was the case in the UK] to be such, and people having to suffer the rough-justice persecution of being homosexual/lesbian, surely the time has come for so-called less-restrictive and more tolerant countries such as Russia to accept and encourage that which they are seen to openly endorse to the rest of the world, sir.

I will comment further on this fascinating and interesting bog, sir, one in which you stated in your last post, sir, you said may not be up to your usual standard of genius because of the pressure you felt you were under, squire.

As an aside, I would like to inform you that I and farmer Ted were the only two Dartmoor farmers to endorse, be happy and to turn-up to the civil ceremony of two gay farmers on Dartmoor that took place about three years ago.

Sadly, some of the 'old school' farmers shunned these two highly popular and sociable fellow farmers when they discovered their sexuality.

'Live and let live', I say, and 'Love and let love', I also say.

I do however have to be honest, here, sir, and say that I am not happy nor keen to see those homosexuals who publicly flaunt and expect special attention when acting in what could be described as being in an overly-exuberant manner, squire. Heterosexual people, in the main, sir, do not act in this manner, and I do not feel that homosexuals should expect special attention, or deem it to be acceptable, for behaving in such a manner.

Enjoy the day and the moment, sir.

Farmer Giles, always glad to help.

Bill, I applaud your less serious stance on this issue, sir, and hope that it is not the case that the homosexual community in general turns around and comments, ever so sweetly into your ear that, "all your heterosexual dicks and tits are all belong to us."

Turnip truck, indeed. I get awfully tired of those that use cynicism to rationalize their greed and call it clever.

The founding fathers of our great nation (not yours, mind you) were quite aware of the flaws in the human character, and attempted to construct a society that distributed power and arranged it such that the major players would counterbalance each other and leave the people to pursue their happiness with minimal intrusions.

That isn't some utopian nonsense, but rather a practical recipe for wealth generation. Wealth that is now being plundered by greedy, short-sighted parasites that are no longer frightened of a communist pike up their ass.

Which brings us to Putin's shirtless reassurances that gay propaganda would never be tolerated in his beloved motherland of closeted fruit-bruisers. Speaking freely about one's significant other might land an athlete in jail? Laudable attempt, but I'm just not feeling the whole evil empire thing and I think Barry I'llBombYa has much better soft-pedaled tyrant game than Putin could ever hope to muster.

I understand your distaste for Takei based on his shrewish, scorned-woman's slanders of the great Bill Shatner, but surely you can see the value of bringing the tourist trap back to your fair town for another fleecing... especially of all of those homo DINK's with the disposable dollars to spend on your fine goods and services. Emphasis on services, since that's what pays the bills these days...

thims - barry i'llbomba, i like that one.

the vancouver olympics, like all olympic and public endeavors, justified the losing of money by pointing to the money spent by tourists etc. the bottom line is the olympics lost money and the city of vancouver has finally come up with a figure on how much they lost on the olympic housing village. originally they said it would make money but now they are admitting to a 300 million dollar loss. and that's just the athlete's village.

i'm not rationalizing greed, i'm stating a fact. please review human history and come up with a 200 year span where greed was contained. religion, supposedly the moral compass or our species, is one of the biggest offenders.

and your founding fathers went home and fucked their slaves after patting themselves on the back.

BBC said...

Our founding fathers fucked everything they could get their dicks in.

thimscool said...

Take heart! A $300M loss for the city of Vancouver is a $300M gain for some other worthy souls! Actually more than that if you count the principal and interest that will be paid to some hard working bankers, who will no doubt use that money to improve the world in some joyful way.

A 200 year period where greed was contained? That moves the goal posts a long way from "somebody trying to turn us into something we're not." But I'd say that both the Roman and American Republic's were a noble attempt, as long as we're talking about citizens and not slaves or enemies of the state.

The former lasted considerably longer than 200 years before it unraveled into unchecked greed and concentration of power in the hands of a few. The latter did not quite make 200 years, depending on how you measure it. But everything happens faster these days thanks to technology... including collapse.

thimscool said...

You know, a clever, cynical man would be on the winning side of th3 $300M transaction, rather than grousing at the loss of the public.

After all, fuck the public! They're just rubes.

billy pilgrim said...

what happened was the city of vancouver got greedy and awarded the contract to the company that was paying the most for the land and offering the city the biggest profit but the company filed for bankruptcy and the city had guaranteed the loans. the 300 million figure is in dispute and it's probably higher.

they like to create social housing on the most expensive land.

bbc makes and excellent point on the founding fathers. they were only human and men are hard wired to fuck and accumulate wealth.

BBC said...

Hey, I don't consider myself greedy, I'm in a class alone though..

thimscool said...

That's absolutely true, and some of the cruelest, greediest rich bastards started out poor and just kept stepping on necks until they get what they want: to be as far away from poor as possible.

But your theory doesn't say much about the middle class... you know, the ones that actually have the leisure time and connection to reality that makes it possible for innovation to happen.

Rich brats don't invent because they don't need to be clever to exploit their existing power to get more (even if they did, the rich are few). Poor urchins don't invent because they're too worried about the next meal (or beating). It is the middle class that creates new knowledge and wealth. Gauss was the son of a bricklayer.

I know a lot of middle class folks with no desire to lord it over other people and play master of the universe. Your theory doesn't account for them, which is ironic, because they are the ones that make wealth possible in the first place.

Your theory sucks.

billy pilgrim said...

my theory sucks!

i'd like a second opinion.

what is your definition of middle class? i ask that because i don't have a firm grasp on what is middle class.

i'm having the same discussion/argument with my suicidal friend who is always championing the poor/middle class.
he gets real mad when i tell him that the root of his view on the world is his hatred/envy of the rich not his compassion of the poor and i stand by that statement.

i think the king has the best handle on all this bullshit, play the hand that's dealt to you.

don't drive yourself crazy worrying about the hand that's dealt to someone else.

BBC said...

Um, I dealt some of my hand to me, after all, I was the fucking dealer and wasn't interested in riches.

There were times when I made good money and lived well but those times didn't make me any happier, one of the best decisions I ever made for myself was when I decided to become a bum.

Now I'm just here for some adventures and things that interest me.

BBC said...

I contend that you don't have a fucking theory, or clue, hahahaha

thimscool said...

The middle class means different things in different times and cultures, but I think the common characteristics that define the lower bound is leisure and the freedom to use it (wisely or not), and also a degree of economic security that allows one to deal with shit happening.

Now, I'll admit that in the US there are more than a handful of poor people that take plenty of leisure and they remain poor because they use it unwisely. However these folks have no innate economic security except what is directly provided by government aid. As we see in our political process... that's not very secure.

The upper boundary is pretty high, in my definition... to graduate to rich you must be able to afford complete leisure, if you want, without compromising economic security. And it doesn't count to just lower your expectations; you've got to able to afford the gall bladder surgery with or without government subsidy or insurance, and not sweat the expense one bit.

I don't envy or dislike the rich. I have some rich friends and family; I like them but I wouldn't want to trade lives.

As for a second opinion, I'll give it to you: it is important to distinguish between rich folks that got wealthy by exploiting loopholes or systematic weaknesses (the parasites), as opposed to those that were gutsy enough, lucky enough, and worked hard enough to build an institution or company that improves the world (if nothing else, by employing people in a way that isn't exploitative).

The latter promotes the general welfare, and supports the middle class. The former will be flayed an displayed when I come to power.

BBC said...

There is no such thing as economic security on this planet.

thimscool said...

In absolute terms I agree, because the whole system is suspect. But in relative terms, with prudent planning, financial security is possible.

billy pilgrim said...

i wanted the second opinion for a different person.

a dirt poor person would consider me rich but a rich person would consider me to be poor so i think the definition of middle class is a very fluid thing and that's why politicians like to talk about the middle class. it provides misdirection whilst they feather their nests.

the main thing the poor and middle class have to do is avoid debt at all costs unless of course it's for a an asset that will increase in value over time.

this is becoming more and more difficult with the advances that have been made in marketing due to all the data that has been gleaned from people's on line activities, cell phone records, credit card expenditure and air miles etc. the average person finds it incredibly difficult to resist the ads that they are constantly bombarded with and those ads are becoming more and more sophisticated and delivered with pin point accuracy.

take a look at activities on facebook. lambs to the slaughter.

BBC said...

I have enough economic security for me and my needs for the rest of my life, as long as my retirement money keeps coming. And if it stops coming I'm not going to be the only one on that boat, but I will be in a better position to deal with it.

Farmer Giles said...

Dearest Billy, sir, it has been a few days, squire.

I have just been reading some of the interesting and intriguing comments that have appeared on this, your latest bog, sir.

Hmm, interesting.

I recall, many years ago, reading The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. I Also recall reading Das Kapital by Karl Marx, and concluded that perhaps some of the ideas conveyed in The Communist Manifesto, if, as they were originally intended to be implemented may in fact work. The idea that, 'equal distribution of wealth', could be perhaps be a workable condition that may in fact be apart of a new social system appealed to me. Surely, any escape from Capitalism had to be worth a try, sir.

However, as with most social systems, as I am sure that you are more than aware of, the people who lead and govern the/their people, lose sight of their theoretical ideology due to the state that the effect of power and all of its associated traits and characteristics evolve, and therefore, distort, delude and betray these initial ideologies, and the main reason for this is nothing more than greed and corruption. Self-evident and simply obvious.

Okay, nothing new here, sir, as this is how most of our historical past has, and still does, evolve. Then, in 2008, we witnessed that which happens when the fruits of capitalism fail, a global economic meltdown, the likes of which we have never seen before, or are likely [hopefully] to see again.

Perhaps one day, a new social system will be developed that excludes the consequences of all the corruption, power, greed, and all these ongoing associations that we still witness today, and just maybe, sir, the world and its people will live on a more equal and level footing.

However, squire, you and I know that the likelihood of something as wonderful as this happening are non-existent, so, I guess that you could, and may as well accept the fact that we are always going to remain entombed in the horrific social systems in which we live in today, and the divisions between us will never be resolved.

Happy Days, sir.

Farmer Giles, always glad to help.
