things are looking up

take a look into the sky and you might just see the future:

Image 11 / 25 : German test pilot Markus Scherdel steers the solar-powered Solar Impulse 2 aircraft during a training flight at its base in Payerne Switzerland, Saturday. The aircraft weighs 2.4 tons with a wingspan of 236 ft. and has more than 17,000 solar cells. The attempt to fly around the world in stages using only solar energy will be made from March 2015 starting from Abu Dhabi.

that's right, this solar powered son of a bitch is going to fly around the world and it ain't no lightweight girly boy aircraft, the sun is going to propel a 2.4 ton piece of brilliant engineering all that distance. the future looks bright and yes virginia, we do live in interesting times. lucky us.

as the world moves forward, toronto continues to reach new levels of ineptitude. we all know about their political gift to the world, rob ford. now the good folks of toronto will give you A FREE CASE OF HEPATITIS C with every colonoscopy at their boutique arse reaming clinics and if that isn't nice, what is?

i love you sons of bitches.

That's one amazing plane. Definitely not girly-boy!
I hate technology can't seem to give me a solar car or even electric that I can afford.
K.D. does a very job with this song. I've always thought it seemed prophetic in on a couple of levels. Ah, well, just a thought.
Thank goodness I got the colon-thing done here... but you know the States; we can't let anybody have a disaster without us having one too.
Nice article Billy.

It may not be a girly, but it looks like a glider with 4 girly engines. Do those engines provide enough thrust for an unassisted take-off?

Hell that thing weighs just a bit more than my car...

I hope they have good weather.

I'm glad I'm not flying it, I don't like to get very far off the ground. Cool technology though.

I went fishing this afternoon, going to take my friends in Texas some good northwest 'fish'.

ok - k.d's album "hymns of the 49th parallel is excellent.

dixie - our colonoscopies are fine here as long as you keep away from toronto. you'll get it up the arse for most things in toronto.

gb - good point on the thrust. i'm thinking it might just need a real long runway.

thims - good point, weather can be important. but maybe it can fly above the clouds or the batteries can store enough juice to get through them.

king - i guess you spirit guys don't need planes to take flight.

galt - the guys who got hep c might have hit the jackpot, lawsuit wise.

My spirit is an independent bastard that likes to stay on the ground. That is why I'm making the little camper for the trip. Fuck looking for motel rooms when I want to sleep.

KD does a fine job with my favorite Neil song. Thank you for that!

I think I'll skip the colonoscopy in Toronto deal. Free is a great price, though. I like most free things.

I hope that plane makes it without troubles. It is very cool.

king - spirits are meant to soar with the eagles. my spirit longs to swim with the sea turtles in the mediteranean.

silly - i think skipping toronto all together is a good idea.

Awesome! To commemorate this, let's drive to Vegas and back in a Prius.

kenneth - i've never been in a prius and never plan to get in one. maybe a leaf or a volt but not a prius.

Wow. That is one amazing plane. Going to have to show that to Kyle as he loves him some planes. Well it looks the US of A topped you with your hepatitis C as we have the good old ebola in the land of the free and home of the brave. Good times.
