the resolution

on jan 1 2014 my resolution was to begin doing push ups in the morning. i started at 10 and hoped to add 1 or 2 a week and see how many i could do by june 30. just doing 10 was painful and difficult but i stuck with it thinking that the old body would heal itself and i would soon be doing many more and pain free. the pain didn't go away but i kept adding to the number until i reached 22. then my shoulders and arms ached so much that i had to quit. throughout the year it drove me crazy having to admit defeat to a few lousy push ups.

well, guess what my resolution was for jan 1 2015? that's right, i'm a recidivist and decided to attack the push ups again. this time i started out with one lousy push up in november and vowed to add one more each few weeks. by the time i hit 3, the shoulder was sore but i stuck with it and i'm now up to 10 and the pain doesn't start until i hit about 6. lucky me. the original goal was to be able to perform 60 push ups by my 60th birthday but that goal now seems totally unrealistic. the goal now is to be able to complete 60 push ups in 60 minutes. maybe 4 sets of 15 or something along that line. i think there's a 50/50 chance that i'll succeed. it wasn't too long ago that i was into karate and could do 20 or 30 with almost no effort whatsoever. it seems the body begins to go downhill fast at about age 55. so it goes.

on a separate note, it wasn't that long ago that i considered bibi netanyahu to be a total prick but now i kinda like the guy. it all started when the obumble administration called him a coward and a chickenshit. i wouldn't have batted an eyelash if they'd called him an asshole. but for some candy ass pencil pusher to call a man with an excellent military record that includes being wounded twice in battle a coward seems to be akin to chickenhawks like cheney sending young men off to war. god bless bibi.

i love you sons of bitches.

Billy... push ups, nah! My back doctor has me stand in a corner of two walls. It's called 'kinetics' I think. I press against the walls, tighten the muscles, hold for a few seconds, then release. It builds the muscles. He doesn't want me messing with the spine alignment and this works nicely.
Do the same for your legs by sitting on the floor, legs pressed against wall. Do not break contact, whether you're doing arms or legs. It's all about tightening the muscles.
Obumsle is a p.o.s.
I watched bibi address congress; was glad to see the standing ovation. Now, will they back it up?

Loved the video. Hadn't heard that song in eons. That's my 40 cents (damn inflation!)

Anything that makes you pant hard is good, so I'm giving your push-up routine a big thumbs up. How about taking a 30 second break after the first 6 and then doing another 6?

dixie - counting flowers on the wall, that don't bother me at all.

my sister is always telling me to do the thing with a ball between my back and the wall then going up and down.

gb - i get my hard panting from biking. i also get my donuts from biking so it would be the gold standard of exercising.

At almost 72 I'm not sure I could do two push ups. A week ago I did manage to pick myself off the floor in an opening between two counter tops, but it hurt.

It didn't keep hurting but it hurt to do it.

start with one and build from there.

it'll give you a raison d'etat.

Yesterday I went for a walk, picked up an engine and put it in the riding mower and hooked everything up, that is enough exercise when you have to craw under the mower a few times.

20+ years of demolition did me in. I'm good for maybe 3 push ups.

Did you say you were 55? Well you haven't seen the best of your downhill journey. I'm sure BBC can fill you in on the details.

Shit, when I was 60 I was still steaming along like a train.

Keep fighting the good fight, BP. Hang in there, my friend, and I hope the rest of 2015 treats you well.

Flexercize is about as serious as it gets for me.
Trying to boot-camp after you've passed 30 is pretty much a waste of time for most people.

I can relate Billy, you've got a just a few years on me. I use to be healthy as a horse, now I can barely make it up stairs. I had the flu and got reactive arthritis. I never had any arthritis and boom, got it overnight. I guess I'm lucky to have it in my knees and hips, it can hit your organs or give you sausage fingers. Sometimes it goes away after six months to a year, that's what I'm hoping for.

"Here comes old sausage fingers."

"Go away sausage fingers, you're making me hungry."

Those push-ups you got from the Ice Cream Truck as a kid were awful good. Maybe just eat 60 of those.

Just kidding.

You got this, dude! Stick with it! Add on one or two a day. I like it.

bbc - and that's why you're the king.

mr shife - thank you for your support.

galt - flexercise?

tex - rheumatoid arthritis? that's serious stuff, i hope you don't have it.

kenneth - adding 1 every day or so is what killed me last year. so far it's working good only increasing by one every two weeks. no victory is too small these days.

2 days rest. You're killing your body's ability to rebuild.

Or alternate days with sit ups.

I'm not a fan of Bibi. Fucker wants to touch off WWIII.
