the rip has been my partner in crime for 2 months now and she's exceeded my expectations by a country mile. the first day she drove everyone nuts by pacing the perimeter of the fence in the back yard, she just wouldn't stop. she was like that energizer bunny. since she was a stray and lived on the streets for a while she's hyper alert, nothing gets by her. in 2 months i've been unable to get any good pictures because she just won't sit still unless she's sitting by my side. i tried to take a good picture this morning and this is the best i could get:
best of all, she's a totally excellent security system for the house. we were without a beast for 7 months after ruby ascended to the next level and that was the first time in my life i had been without a beast. i really missed the feeling of security knowing someone had my back. a guy always needs someone or something to have his back. fathers and dogs are the 2 things that never let you down and i lost both but now i have the rip and everything's coming up roses!
each night before crawling into bed i have a little chat with the rip and tell her what an excellent job she's doing. i spare no platitudes and i offer no suggestions on how she could improve her performance. ruby was bigger and much more powerful than the rip but good old rip makes up for it with speed and alertness.
and she caught a rat in the backyard! if that isn't nice, what is?
i love you sons of bitches.

Rip looks like a good dog. Does she fetch?
dora - she's a real ball hawk. she loves to chase tennis balls and then spend half an hour ripping them to shreds.
I'm glad she has brought happiness to your heart.
yup, she's my current sweetheart but i won't forget how good ruby and all the dogs before her were. ruby's photo will always be at the top of the blog.
She's a ratter? I'm guessing she didn't swallow it whole like a wolf. You probably feed her too well. :)
I haven't heard from Tex in years..he went tea bagger on us and conspiracy theorist..why? have you kept up with him?
gb - the rip is a true renaissance beast. she does it all. if there was a kangaroo in our yard, she'd shred it, package it and freeze it for winter food.
js - yes, i'll always appreciate his sense of humor.
That's a fine looking dog..
I asked Sooner about Tex..he is in bad health..his father died of Alzheimer's and Sooner said when he saw him at the funeral he really looked bad..but Sooner is going to see him I think this weekend and he's going to get his address so we can send him get well cards..soon as I get it I'll let you know..js
Awesome. Glad things are going well with the Ripper. I saw the update about Tex from JS. Let me know if you hear anything else. I would love to drop him a line to let him know we are thinking of him. Take care buddy.
i hope old tex is just going through a temporary period of mourning and returns to good old self.
I'm 66 and had dogs all my life until my heeler died five years ago, and I afterwards got a cat. I miss dogs but I don't miss having to bath them, walk them, and take them everywhere I go because they get so upset when they're alone. I never even imagined that I would someday not have a dog, but here I am, dogless. If I were to ever get another dog, I guess it would be in the under-ten-pound variety because at least that way, it would be easier.
All that said, I'm thrilled that you're enjoying your dog, because I do know the feeling, and it's not something that a cat can ever replace.
ruby was about 90 pounds and very difficult to handle. being 60 years old i doubt if i'd be able to handle a 90 pound pitbull in 10 years so that's why i went for small shepherd cross. i spend a lot of time alone in the house so a beast is essential for my peace of mind.
