it's getting hot.

with all the posturing going on with budget deficits and unfunded entitlement liabilities no one seems to be focusing on the big picture. there was a CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE in mexico that just wrapped up. this important conference was little more than a footnote in many newspapers compared to economic news and of course the perpetual state of war on our planet.

the conference restated the goal of limiting the rise in temperature to 2 degrees celsuis over the next 25 years. more likely is A 3.5 DEGREE INCREASE IN GLOBAL TEMPERATURES.

in my mind a 3.5 degree celsius increase in temperature over the next 25 years is beyond catastrophic. our ecosystem is in a balance that literally took billions of years to achieve and we're going to piss it down the drain in the name of greed and ignorance. we are so feckin greedy and short sighted that rather than slow down our destruction of the planet our politicians are promoting stimulus plans and urging consumers to spend their way out of a natural economic contraction.

growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of a cancer cell and our species has turned out to be a cancer on the planet.

you were sick, but now you're well, and there's work to do.

Don't forget the climate has natural cycles of ice ages followed by interglacials. When the next ice age is round the corner, a bit of extra carbon dioxide might be a good thing.

but in the past there weren't 7 billion people to feed and countless people depending on glacial run-off for fresh water.

when the watering hole gets smaller the animals get meaner and this time the animals will have nuclear weapons.

The dinosaurs only lasted 160 million years on the planet. We just arrived at the party, there is no guarantee we are going to be around long enough to enjoy the punch.

We need Kilgore Trout! Maybe even a Timequake to shake us out of our folly.

Thanks for the reminder on a very serious subject. You are correct of course. We ignore the important issues.

There is work to do.

yellowdog - yup, we're fucked but our kids are fucked more than us.

robert - we kinda wrecked the party for a lot of species. i hope the aliens guarding the planet don't hold it against us.

ananda - thanks for your support. i don't know if i can handle all this freewill.

I agree with your insight and view, but I'm going to be just a tad optimistic.

Where I live is one of the areas that is very life giving and renews fast.

So maybe after a lot of ugly shit pockets of humanity in areas like this can start over again, more wisely I hope.

The concern is that everyone will want to go to them areas when things do get ugly, that will of course destroy them.

We need more bombs to protect our areas, and to be kings of them being as these stupid monkeys can't get things right.

Bombs are toys and you like toys.

Wait, Ananda Girl is looking forward to having ten more grand kids.

Yup, we're fucked, but like you said, they're more fucked.

billy - we are an incredibly selfish generation. we just don't give a shit about leaving future generations up to their armpits in debt and stuck with an overheated planet with skyrocketing commodity prices.

tralfamadore looks pretty good these days.

Well, I would like to take this time to encourage everyone to encourage their kids to have lots of kids so they can have lots of grand kids so we can get this over faster.

Fuck, a lot of adults can't find work, where do they think all these kids are going to find work?

Forget much in welfare, won't be a hell of a lot of it in 20 years, the little bastards and bitches can just starve and make the planet a better place.

I'm sure fucking getting cranky.
