my summer project is growing a few tomatoes. i wanted to grow something else but a certain someone vetoed the idea. it's not that i'm afraid of her it's just that she could easily destroy my plants whilst i'm away so tomatoes are the project.
my new gimmick is a fresh picture in the header on a weekly basis. it should be tres exciting.
my dad grows tomatoes every summer and they're his pride and joy but my mother takes great delight in criticizing his garden so my plan is to make sure dad's tomatoes are far superior to mine. that way when mom criticizes dad's tomatoes i can honestly say, "hey, dad's tomatoes put mine to shame, i wish i could grow tomatoes like dad"

I hope you're going to eat them raw. Home grown tomatoes are too tasty to waste in ketchup.
Seasonally superior, here in SC, where tomatoes are concerned. We've got four huge plants covered in green globes. I literally have to take a machete to the things to keep them within the boundaries of the garden.
So, today, I spent the morning running between Lowes and Homey D's looking for Blossom End Rot Stop. I got some looks from employees, when I named the product, that could fill a blog post or two.
Have to wait until late afternoon to apply my spray. Meanwhile, I'm experiencing acute blossom end rot anxiety.
It's always something. Love the header challenge.

nance - if there's crappy weather in late august the tomatoes might get the blight and i'll get nothing but the fun of growing them. it's happened before.
robert - when i was young tomatoes weren't on my most favored fruit/veg list but then something happened and they became #1 on my list.
Growing is too much work when I can bum or steal them from the neighborhood.
There things I consider is a must for every garden. Tomatoes is a must in my garden. If all works out tomorrow Hubby and I are going to get some tomatoes plant but I also wondering why we are going to plant them.
Like every place else we are having strange weather. It been on the cool side here in North Idaho.

billy - it isn't much work growing tomatoes. shit the bees work harder pollinating them than i do watering them.

Pfft!! Screw the tomatoes. Just grow the pot!. . .or, maybe you should grow both and use the tomato garden as a cover for your cannabis garden. But it won't work for long, as reefer shrubs grow pretty tall. So maybe you should also grow corn as a cover for your marijuana farm. And as long as you're at it, you might as well grow some opium poppies and some coca plants...for medicinal purposes, obviously. That way you're a well-rounded narcotic farmer. **inhales deeply** "Yep, you grow the best pot, Dad."
I tried one of tomato baskets last year; got one walnut sized 'mater. But it was good

bob - if worse comes to worst i can always buy a few 'maters from the store and say i grew them myself.
billy - in the great northwest mother nature usually takes care of the watering.
Good luck with your tomatoes, I'm trying to grow some too. I'd like to grow something else too, but my state is less than progressive when it comes to that, even though it's our #1 cash crop.
Hmmm, I tried growing tomatoes one year. I couldn't understand where all my tiny tomatoes were going until I spotted the cats pinching them off the vine. I must own the only tomato loving cats in the world. Good luck with your project.

I grow potted tomatoes every summer, and they're always a colossal failure. This year, I planted upside down tomatoes, and you wouldn't believe how the babies are growing! (Much harder for little critters to dine on the, too.)
This is going to be fun, watching your little tomatoes evolve. ;)
now we know why your 'maters are doing so good...Ruby guards them.
