bic lighters

have i ever mentioned how much i hate the bic lighter child proof ring? last night i decided to get a new lighter ready for action and of course this meant removing the child resistant metal band. in the past i've had difficulty with this so i first went to you tube for directions. i watched a few of them just to make sure i was on the right track and sure enough, i fucked up the first lighter i tried to activate. there was one more left in the package so it took a lot of courage to try and remove the ring on the last little soldier. it took several tries but i was able to do it. lucky me. out of the package of 6 lighters, i'll bet i fucked up 3 of them. i made a vow last night to never again buy a bic lighter. (or swallow my pride and get sonny to deal with the safety ring.) how pathetic is that, asking your kid to deal with a child safety device.

on the plus side, i repaired a toilet. a certain member of our household broke the flush lever so it was off the hardware store. there was a large assortment of flush levers and i opted for the more expensive model with a chrome handle and metal bar thinking i'd win the respect of everyone involved but the son of a bitch wasn't a snug fit in the tank hole so i had to drive back to hardware store and exchange it. the dumb fuck who had the house before us had a crappy string attaching the old lever to valve on the bottom of the tank so i also bought a chain. after several adjustments to get the chain the proper length, the dirty job was done. a new flush lever; if that isn't nice, what is?

i love you sons of bitches.

Wouldn't it be nice if one would have a choice on the lighter,,,child or non child proof.
We can ask for non child proof caps on our medicine. But you sign a waiver.
Haven't you thought of wooden matches

Coffee is on

i went to the dollar store and bought a few lighters that will allow children to easily set themselves on fire.

Stop your fucking whining, I showed you some time back an easy way to remove that ring.

The best thing about a Bic though is that they last a lot longer than most lighters so if you are going to buy buck lighters buy a few more for backup.

Congratulations on the toilet job - a house without a functional WC means a lot of trips to the garden. I reckon you should give up lighters and get a box of those old matches that you can ignite by striking against the wall. I think that would look pretty cool. :)

BBC said...

Since they changed the material in them strike anywhere matches don't work as well as they did back in the good old days when an arsonist could depend on them.

Most things don't seem to be as well made as they used to be, I had to buy a new table saw yesterday.

Was a brush fire yesterday but they got right on it and got it out quick.

Hey Leslie, what do yo think about Patreon?

Pilgrim, you've broken my givashit gland.

billy pilgrim said...

i'm not whining, i'm warning others!

gb - my history with matches is not a good one. they don't work for sour apples when wet.

thims - you think i give a shit if you give a shit?

BBC said...

Warning others about what, that you suck at a simple operation on a Bic?

billy pilgrim said...

ok, so tell me again how to remove the ring.

my new lighter from the dollar store has a flashlight built into the base but i'm guessing it won't last as long as a good old bic.

Go back and look at my old post about it, use Bic as the search word.

I have issues with cheap lighters.

A: They often won't discharge all the gas in them cuz they don't have enough pressure in them.

B: Because they use a thinner case than a Bic I've had them blow up on me in a hot vehicle.

C: The flints often wear out before the gas is used up.

It is just cheaper all around to buy a Bic in the first place.

Maybe you should get a flint and steel, that mountain man stuff is still pretty cool and always serves me well in a pinch.

i'm not going to go through all your old posts looking for "bic"

BBC said...

You don't have to, just do a search for Bic on my blog and it will bring up any posts I mention Bic in and there isn't that many of them.

On the other hand, just ask Leslie to help you, she is pretty good about sucking the gas out of things.

harry sent me some instructions that are head and shoulders above anything you've come up with.

you could learn a lot from harry.

If they work for you I'm glad for you.

Are you using Chrome? Chrome doesn't show a blog search box, I think Firefox does but can't swear to it cuz I haven't used Firefox for some time. It did back when I did use it.

BBC said...

It just made a liar out of me, my version of Chrome is now showing a search box.

You should consult a neurologist.

my brain is fine, it's my mind that's on the fritz.

Then you should heal thyself. I recommend two weeks in the wilderness using only what you're wearing right now.

smith & wesson is getting the shit kicked out of it today. you better go show support and buy a few guns.

Thim's may be looking for an Uzi to train his kids with. Got the guns I want.

S&W's most recent big product reveal was the M&P 22 compact version of their popular rimfire pistol.

I have the M&P22, and it is an excellent pistol. It essentially matches the full sized models for the purposes of holstering and presentation, battery of arms, and sight picture. Of course the recoil is minimal and I would never consider relying on .22lr ammo for self defense.

Which begs the question, why the compact model?

More importantly, no one has been able to to reliably find 22lr for many, many moons... and the sales figures reflect that even at the flea market level. Guns that shoot .22lr are a lot less interesting now then they were two years ago.

I still love 'em, but I tend to think longer term than my meager earnings would indicate. Nows the time to be buying an M&P 15-22, my friend.

And maybe also some S&W stock, since the mid term is quite bullish on guns and butter.

I wish we were allowed to play with guns here. My buddy spent over 6 months getting his "acquisition certificate" and the only place he can fire the fucking thing is at a gun range that's about a 90 minute drive away.

Just buy a couple of hundred acres of timberland. It's a good investment, and a good place for a cabin full of fukitall.

thimscool said...

If you build it, I will come. And BBC will probably camp there permanently.

Make sure you get a running stream.

I once took an all expenses paid, game show prize trip on Canada's Gold Leaf rail service, from Banff to Vancouver.

There is a lot of land in Canada where the only law is natural law.

BBC said...

No worries, after we own you and Tim Hortens we'll set up shooting ranges in Burger Kings.

years ago i dreamed of buying a large chunk of land, then i sobered up and realized my limitations.

but i'd still like to live a nice piece of waterfront property on the west coast of vancouver island.

BBC said...

Like, around Bamfield?

billy pilgrim said...

bowser, fanny bay, union bay on the east coast of the island and bamfield, tofino, tahsis on the west coast.

the west coast has a better pacific ocean feel but the east coast has more services. as i get older, access to medical care becomes more important.

thimscool said...

Well hurry up, I need a vacation next spring...

billy pilgrim said...

i have to deliver fresh donuts to my 92 year old father every morning. it would be long commute from the island.

BBC said...

Don't think I want to live right on the coast, often too much fog and wind. It is a lot nicer just a few miles inland, making it a short trip to the beach.

Buddy lived way out in the sticks but the EMT's always got there in time to save his ass.

Must be some decent services and shopping in Port Alberni, it isn't too far from Bamfield.

Your father should switch to high fiber gluten free English Muffins. And have them delivered to him.

When a little boy stepped on a bee nest Tuesday and was hit by a swarm of bees, his family’s adopted pit bull dragged him to safety.

Jesse-Cole, 8, his sister Jasmine, 17, and seven other kids were playing in a creek behind their Oregon apartment complex when someone stepped on a rotten log and unleashed a dangerous swarm of bees. The other kids quickly climbed up the steep embankment to safety, but Jesse-Cole, who was stung at least 24 times, was unable to make it.

“Hades saw me and came and dragged me up to the grass, and stopped and let me crawl on her back and took me to my mom,”
