my old eyes are showing their age and as a result, i can't read for sour apples without reading glasses. i saw an ad for glasses priced at 2 pairs for $99 so i walked in and said i want 4 pairs of glasses. surprise, surprise the bill came to over $400. i was told that anti scratch, anti glare etc were essential and of course these were added costs. and of course i said, i want the 2 pairs for $99 deal at which point the owner, a fat old european with several ounces of gold hanging around his hairy old chest, came to set me straight. things got heated as the owner and i had a different ideas of what 2 pairs for $99 really means. can you guess how much i ended up paying for my 4 pairs of glasses? $198.
only an idiot pays for scratch resistant and anti glare lenses. and of course he told me that since he liked me so much he'd toss in these features for free. rather than telling him i knew that almost all lenses come with those features, i thanked him profusely so he could save face with his employees.
around the middle of next week the new specs will be ready, lucky me. our health care system gives free glasses to children and deadbeats. maybe next time i can find some 5 year old to take my prescription into the optician and pretend the glasses are for him/her. i wouldn't trust a deadbeat to pull it off.
i love you sons of bitches.

I wear reading glasses and I just go to the dollar store and purchase them.
Anyhow how does your eye exam works up in Canada?...If you don't have insurance it usual cost about $150 around here for a basic eye exam.
Coffee is on
i have about 10 pairs from the dollar store but my eyes get sore after too much reading so i'm going for the rx glasses. i regularly lose glasses so that's why i decided on 4 cheap pairs rather than 1 fashionable pair.
our eye exams are about $100 but if your doctor gives you a medical referral it's free. just tell the doctor that you keep seeing jesus in the dog's water bowl and they'll send you for an eye exam.
Our medicare which is for general people 65 and older. Medicaid for the super poor. If the eye doctor finds such things as cataracts. Then it paid for but near or far sightness doesn't count.
Reading glasses are basically magnifying glasses so there's no need for them to be expensive. Don't you get dirt cheap ones in a flea market? The fat European sounds like a fat crook.
It's a racket. The actual cost for frames and lenses is around $5 or so. It's a joke. Last quote I got was for $750. Said thanks but no thanks.
dora - we have the same deal with cataracts. the cataract surgery usually restores perfect vision so i wouldn't be upset if the doc told me i had cataracts.
gb - it's hard to get the strength with dollar store glasses so i decided to treat myself.
demuer - yup, those designer frames are outrageously expensive.
This guy is a national treasure!
he called the store cambodian tire. most people i know call it canadian "liar" rather than canadian tire because they rarely have the good deals they advertise. but that's where i bought my little cedar trees so it's not all bad.
Shit, even two dollar reading glasses are pretty scratch resistant. I'll have to get new good glasses to keep driving, I suppose.
it's past the middle of the week and my new glasses aren't ready yet. i was hoping to dovetail a trip to the fish store with picking up the new specs but it looks like i'm shit out of luck.
Where's Harry??
i don't know where he is but there is a definite shortage of hugh g reckshons with harry out of the picture.
You the man, BP. Way to take it to him. You are an inspiration. Hope the Ripper is doing well. Take care buddy.
Stop in at dollar store the other day and picked up some reading glasses.
mr shife - i'll be picking them up later today. if the lenses get scratched and i can see due to glare, i might look a fool. so it goes.
dora - i'll be buying reading glasses at the dollar store until the day i die. i always need a back-up pair to the back-up pair to the back-up pair to the back-up pair to the back-up pair to the back-up pair..........................
I bought my glasses from Moody Eyes. I'm pretty skeptical about these places, but I got a great deal and was able to find glasses that looked good on me. I'm all about using dollar store cheater glasses, but there are times when that isn't enough. Truthfully, when you pay a dollar or two you get what you pay for.
