years and years ago our gang spent friday nights drinking and arguing over which television show was the most funny, monty python or sctv. most of us, myself included, voted for monty python. i think there was a certain snob appeal with monty python, it was british and internationally popular.
now that i'm a little older and less intoxicated i have to change my vote to sctv.
i love you sons of bitches but i still loath christy fucking clark.

SCTV, hands down. Tuition well spent.
Monty Python had some purely brilliant moments and also moments that ranged from just silly to dumb. I didn't get to watch a whole lot of SCTV as a kid, but I remember this skit, and it's funny.
A lot of Monty Python sketches were crap - you had to be willing to endure them for the comedy gold they produced now and again.

gb - i the monty python gang got a little full of themselves at the end and took their success for granted, much like most successful television shows.

I never watched either of them very much so I'm going to disqualify myself.
SCTV gave us a lot of funny people. I saw a lot of Monty Python as a kid but it was over my head. SCTV came on when I was older and able to comprehend the humor so it would get my vote for sure.
I think the spin-offs from Monty P were their best works. I'd like to think that they matured and evolved, but clips may prove me wrong. Fawlty Towers was my favorite Monty P connection.
SCTV was wonderful! So many great people and laughs came out of there.

mr shife - maybe you should lock yourself in a room with lots of alcohol and some monty python dvds and conduct some research.
ananda - yup, fawlty towers was excellent. i might go to my grave having never decided which show was better, fawlty towers or father ted.
In high school, my friends and I use to watch Monty Python on Friday nights while experimenting with any substance we could get our hands on, I think that made it much funnier. SCTV was good even without being in an altered state.
